PERSISI turns 30 and laughs!
| Most sportsman dread the day they turn 30. It's the signal when their limbs aren't are not springy anymore and their reflexes aren't as lightning quick as it used to be. But as Singapore Silat Federation (SSF) turns 30, they can't help but anticipate more exciting chapters in their already glorious existence | ||||
And they celebrated the occasion with alot of style. Held at Lagun Sari Indonesian Seafood Restaurant in Bukit Timah Plaza, the SSF Fundraising Dinner inconjuction with its 30th Anniversary Celebration drew more than 400 people. Gracing thje event was Minister for Environment and Water Resources, Assoc Prof Dr Yacoob Ibrahim. With him was Speaker for Parliament, Mr Abdullah Tarmugi and several other MPs. Aside from the usual dynamic silat welcoming demonstrations, SSF's birthday bash included a very unique birthday 'cake'. The 'cake' is actually a traditional sculpted Malay dish called Nasi Tumpeng. Afterall, despite the wide ranging appeal of Silat today, one must never forget Silat's roots as a traditional Malay art of self defense. And who better to cut and svour the 'cake' other than our VVIPs |

After the Nasi Tumpeng ceremony, then the party started. Who better to keep our great diiner crowd merry other Alias Kadir and his mates, otherwise known as the Unsangkerables. This popular Malay comedy ensemble split the crowd's stomachs with their funny antics. They did covers of famous songs, mingle with crowd and tickle our funny bones. And not only did they entertain our malay guests but they delighted our other guests of different races and languages. They sang and did slapstick humour in Thai, Cantonese, Chinese and Hokkien. Talk about being linguistic! It really was a night to remember! We at Singapore Silat Federation, would like to thank our wonderful guests at the dinner and those who have helped over the years for their support. And we hope that SSF will continue to shine.
