Singapore is honoured to host 3 Pencak Silat championships to be held concurrently in March 2007, namely; 2 nd World Junior, 1 st Pre-Junior and 2 nd Singapore International Open (Senior) Pencak Silat Championship. These prestigious events are sanctioned by the International Silat Federation and supported by the Singapore Sports Council (SSC).

The championships anticipate participation from over 15 countries from all over the world which include Belgium , Japan , Malaysia , Vietnam , Nepal , USA , Australia and many others. A total of 200 international athletes and officials are expected to be involved in these championships. The championships promise to be an intriguing event with thousands of people from around the world expected to converge in Singapore and support their country and athletes as well as promote the art and sport of Pencak Silat.

The championships have the following objectives:

•  To serve as a good platform for participating countries to give learning exposure to their fledgling young Pencak Silat athletes as well as gaining experience in international competition.

•  To bond various young and promising Pencak Silat athletes from around the world and compete in the spirit of good sportsmanship and showcase their talents.

•  To bring Pencak Silat championship to greater level of participation and promote Silat as a universal sport amongst our youths and global community.

Globally, we hope to set a precedence to increase the level of participation in silat for the pre-junior and junior categories. The staging of the championships in Singapore is hoped to be able to raise the interests of other Silat-participating countries to further promote the sport as well as raise its standard level.

It is also hoped that the championships would create good networking, foster strong bonding and establish mutual relationship between the various participating countries for the betterment of Pencak Silat as a global sport.
