Juniors show class in France

The Singapore Junior Silat Team showed their class as they stamped their mark at the France Open International Silat Championship 2006. The team walked away with an impressive haul of 9 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes. There was further cause for celebration as Ahmad Syazwan B. Amran was named Best Pesilat Overall. Singapore was named the overall country champion.

In the team were pioneer students of the Singapore Sports School Silat team, vindicating the choice of candidates which Singapore Silat Federation sent as the inaugural batch to Singapore Sports School. Ahmad Syazwan B. Amran who was named Best Pesilat Overall was one of the students. And 5 of the 9 gold medal acquired were from students of the Singapore Sports School.

Coach Abdul Kadir Ibrahim, former world champion now Head of Youth Development, said : “ Our athletes showed signs of confidence, mental endurance and  physical ability. This is especially evident in the Sports School Athletes, which proves the decision to place potential athletes in an environment where training and academic needs can be met, is a right one.” Well said, coach.
