Hail the new national champions!

National day maybe one week away but the fireworks came early as the National Pencak Silat Championships ended with a bang on Sunday, 30th July 2006. And the end of it all, one club rose to become the new national champions.

Seligi Tunggal Angkatan, which has National Champions Zulfakar, Yusoff Shah, Rafili, Nur Dinniyati, emerged overall champions for the first time in the history of the club. The club amassed a total of 18 golds, 12 silvers and 14 bronzes and were champions in the pre-junior and senior divisions.

Seni Grasio founded by current Singapore Silat Federation Chief Executive Director and former world champion, Sheik Alau'ddin Yacoob Marican PBM, continued to make headway into the local Silat scene emerged runners-up with an impressive haul of 11 golds, 10 silvers and 19 bronzes. It also swept home all the 3 categories in the Junior division.

  PSK 2006 Final, trophies galore.

The surprise package of these championships has to be the Singapore Sports School. Even with a small squad of just 8 athletes, they swept all that lay in front of them, in both the artistic and match categories. They emerged 3rd overall with 8 golds and 1 silver.

A former world champion made a surprise appearance at the finals. Badariah Hosni, former national and world champion now living in Switzerland, flew to coach her niece, current national champion and world champion, Saiedah Said. And her auntie's presence seems to be helping as Saiedah emerged victorious.

To all the new champions, congratulations! Get the full results here.
